About Us

Aztalan Engineering Takes a Different Approach to Contract Manufacturing

Aztalan is proud to be a 100% employee-owned company. We have a talented staff of experienced engineers, CNC machinists, and assemblers; and our dynamic leadership team is always trying to improve our company. When you join Aztalan as a customer, supplier, or team member, you truly become part of our family. You will notice the Aztalan difference from the time of your first inquiry through the life of our relationship.

best practices

Aztalan's employee owners share a passion and pride in our organization’s skill and workmanship. We continuously reinvest to equip them with the latest in CNC machining tools and technology. We have assembled an impressive list of state-of-the-art software and equipment, and we know how to use it effectively. Our cutting edge manufacturing software integrates all aspects of the manufacturing process, from order entry and scheduling to real time monitoring of machine performance.

At Aztalan, our ISO 13485 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications are far more than our accreditation, they represent the way we do business. Every employee owner is responsible for understanding and supporting their role in our Quality System, and the State of Wisconsin has acknowledged our commitment to quality by recognizing us as a Certified Precision Machine Shop.

problem solving

We specialize in solving problems that arise during the design and manufacturing of precision machined parts and assemblies. No part is too difficult and no assembly too complex for our team.

We solve:

  • Design problems
  • Product costing problems
  • Delivery problems
  • Quality problems
  • Cleanliness problems
  • Simplify supply chain management
  • Provide a seamless transition from internal manufacturing to outsourcing

commitment

Aztalan's parts are found in medical facilities, robotics and oil/gas applications all around the world. Our near-fanatical commitment to superior workmanship, absolute quality, cleanliness, and on-time delivery is woven into the very fabric of our organization because we understand that people’s lives depend on our commitment – and failure in these areas is simply not an option.

pricing

We believe that the prices we charge for our services directly relate to the benefits you will receive. To maintain the most competitive pricing, we routinely conduct thorough time study analyses that include setup, process, and tooling for all necessary operations and materials. Machining, testing and material handling times are calculated based on known feeds, speeds and part density rates. This total is then factored by the company’s burden rate and profit margin, which is then factored again based on market value.

By using concurrent engineering with DFMA software we are able to optimize part features, materials and design work flow so parts fit into an efficient profile and process to lower cost. This not only reduces costs for both of us, it makes it easy to provide you with total price transparency.

About Aztalan Engineering

Our company is built upon a foundation of leadership and commitment. Our founder, Jim Brey, started his venture in leadership by enlisting in the Army infantry after graduating from high school, where he served as a mortar observer and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in his first year. He served in the Korean War where he earned a field commission to Second Lieutenant. When he returned home he discovered aviation, and he served out the remainder of his military career as a pilot of both fixed-wing planes and helicopters, retiring as a Major.

Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering with a degree in mechanical engineering and spent the next 19 years as a mechanical engineer with McDonnell-Douglas, AC Delco, and Hamlin Electronics. But, Jim had a dream to own his own company, so in July, 1978, Aztalan was incorporated as an engineering and manufacturing company. Housed in Jim’s two-car garage with two part-time employees, a few Bridgeport’s and a Macintosh computer, under Jim’s leadership, Aztalan grew rapidly, and within a decade moved to a new 30,000 square foot facility in the Lake Mills Business Park.

Today we’ve expanded even further, but remain faithful to our foundation of leadership and commitment. No client, no part, no problem and no opportunity is too small to escape our undivided attention. Our commitment to excellence and the needs and welfare of our customers is legendary.

Aztalan became partially employee-owned in 2009 when we formed our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). An ESOP is similar to a 401(k) retirement plan but where the investments are primarily made in company stock. Employee-owners of Aztalan have the opportunity to become stakeholders through the ESOP and can help grow their account values with the great work they do over years of service. Aztalan became 100% employee-owned in 2014 and it has become an important part of our culture. Employee-owners are empowered to think like an owner and do things that help create success for the company, because they get to share in that success through the ESOP.
