1978 - Aztalan was founded by Jim Brey
1992 - We opened our 30,000 sq. ft. facility at 100 Industrial Drive in Lake Mills, WI
2007 - Aztalan became ISO 9001 Certified
2009 - Aztalan became ISO 13485 Certified
2009 - 49% of our company transferred to ESOP
2011 - We opened our second facility (76,500 sq. ft.) at 150 Industrial Drive, Lake Mills, WI

Aztalan was built upon a foundation of leadership and commitment, guided by the vision of our founder, Jim Brey. Jim’s leadership journey began when he listed in the Army infantry after high school, serving as a mortar observer and quickly rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. During the Korean War, Jim earned a field commission to Second Lieutenant, and later transitioned to aviation where he served as a pilot of both fixed wing planes and helicopters, retiring as a Major.
After completing his military career, Jim pursued a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering. He spent 19 years working as a mechanical engineer for renowned companies, however, he had a passion to own his own business. In July of 1978, Aztalan Engineering, Inc. was incorporated as an engineering and manufacturing company, housed in Jim’s two-car garage with just two part-time employees, a few Bridgeport machines and a Macintosh computer. Aztalan quickly grew under Jim’s leadership and by the early 1990s, the company expanded to a new 30,000 square foot facility in the Lake Mills Business Park.
In 2009, Aztalan became partially employee-owned by implementing an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). By 2014, we transitioned to being 100% employee-owned. This shift became a vital part of our company culture, where every employee-owner is empowered to think and act like an owner to contribute to the company’s success and share in the rewards through the ESOP.
Aztalan’s dedication to manufacturing excellence is evident in our focus on process control and continuous improvement. We pride ourselves on producing high-quality parts that are ready for assembly, eliminating the need for incoming inspection at customer facilities. Our goal is simple: to provide customers with cost-effective, worry-free parts that help them gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.
