Ultrasonic cleaning is often used in metal manufacturing to clean parts before another process, such as coating or painting. It can also be used to remove contaminants so parts are safe for use, such as with those for breathing circuits.
Ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves to agitate the cleaning solution. The alternating pressure waves generated in the solution create millions of tiny micron-sized bubbles that contain vacuum pressure. The bubbles continue to grow until they reach resonate size, which causes the bubble to implode. When it implodes, the temperature and pressure inside the bubble turn it into a tiny jet that travels towards the hard surface at high velocity. The intensity of the implosions and subsequent jets remove contaminates from the hard surfaces without causing any damage to the part.
Ultrasonic Cleaning is Safe for a Variety of Metals
Ultrasonic cleaning can be safely used on most metals and is gentle since it doesn't agitate the parts. The key to proper cleaning is to ensure the right cleaning solution, temperature and cycle are used for the type of metal. Contrary to what some have been told, even aluminum can be safely cleaned with ultrasonic cleaning as long as the correct process is used.
More Effective Than Other Methods
Ultrasonic cleaning is one of the most effective cleaning methods. Much more so than hand cleaning. Within minutes grease, dirt, rust, fingerprints and other contaminants can be washed away.
Most ultrasonic cleaning occurs around 40 to 60 kHz. The higher frequencies produce smaller, gentler bubbles. The smaller bubbles can get into tiny areas, providing cleaning of microscopic details that other methods can't reach. Large bubbles created by lower frequencies produce a more intense and aggressive cleaning action, allowing you to remove even tightly adhered particles from solid surfaces.
Why Aztalan For Ultrasonic Cleaning
We specialize in providing certified ultrasonic cleaning options for your parts and assemblies, providing you with a single partner for manufacturing and cleaning. With our cleaning process, we can ensure that your most essential metal parts are primed and ready for use or assembly.
For breathing circuit cleaning, which requires complete sterilization to ensure the machine is safe for use, ultrasonic cleaning is one of the most effective and efficient types of disinfecting. Parts get a deep clean into the tiniest crevices with no residue left behind. Because of the critical nature of breathing circuit cleaning, we can meet the requirements for many complex breathing circuit cleaning processes, such as:
